Surprising Ingredients You Can Use To Whiten Your Teeth

by Joann Dunn

The absolute best way to whiten your teeth is to visit a cosmetic dentist, such as one from the Bristol Dental Group, who can use a cutting-edge procedure to remove stains and bleach your teeth. While this approach might not work for all patients, many patients can have their teeth whitened in a way that looks natural. However, if you are not able to schedule an appointment for the dentist and if you do not have time to whiten your teeth with over-the-counter methods, there are other fast (though somewhat less efficient) ways that you can whiten your teeth.

Baking Soda and Lemon Juice

If you have baking soda and lemon juice, you can create a paste that can whiten your teeth. The baking soda acts as an abrasive to scrub surface stains off of your teeth, exposing the less stained teeth underneath. You might think the lemon juice would be too acidic for your teeth. However, since the baking soda is alkaline, this helps counteract the acidic effects of the lemon juice. Simply mix enough lemon juice and baking soda together to create a paste. Apply the paste to your teeth with your toothbrush. Then, let the past sit for a minute and wipe off the paste and saliva with a paper towel. Only use this baking soda method before special events because it is abrasive and can wear down the enamel over time and darken your teeth as a result.

Strawberries

If you have any strawberries, you can simply rub them on your teeth as a way to remove coffee, tea, and red wine stains. Two strawberries and one teaspoon of baking soda will be enough to whiten your smile.

Apple Cider

Rather than using mouth wash, mix two parts water with one part apple cider and swish the liquid around in your mouth. This will help remove many of the surface stains that yellow your teeth.

Bananas

After you have finished eating a banana, you can take the inside of the banana peel and rub it on your teeth to whiten them. This is effective because the banana peel comes with minerals that help to whiten your teeth.

Coconut Oil

If you are looking for a long-term way to whiten your teeth that is natural, try rinsing your mouth with coconut oil. The oil does not have a bleaching effect, but it does kill the bacteria found in plaque that can contribute to yellow teeth. It is also good for your oral health.

About Me

Pregnant? What You Need to Know About Your Pregnancy

During my first pregnancy, I spent a lot of time pushing pillows behind my back trying to find comfort. As the size of the baby grew, so did my discomfort. By the time she was born, I was more than ready to give birth. When I found out I was pregnant again, I was determined that I would not suffer through the same discomforts. I started researching ways to ease the symptoms of pregnancy, including back pain. I created this blog to help other expectant moms find remedies to deal with those symptoms that can be emotionally and physically draining.
