You want for friends and family to be able to come and pay their last respects, but saying goodbye to the person while they are in an urn will be quite difficult for many people.

Wait to Have the Cremation Done

You do not have to have the cremation done right away. You can choose to wait to have the body cremated for a few days so that it can be displayed at the wake. The funeral director will be able to give you the exact number of days you can wait to have the body cremated. 

Rent a Casket to Use During the Wake

Many funeral homes have caskets available for rental. You can rent the casket to use as a display for your loved one. Your loved one will be dressed in a beautiful outfit and have their makeup done the same way they would if they were getting a more traditional burial. Rental caskets are often very affordable and are available in many different colors and styles. 

Delay the Funeral for a Few Days

The funeral does not have to take place the day after the wake. While this is traditional, it is not mandatory. Have the funeral a few days later and that will give the funeral home time to cremate the body. The body will be placed in an urn that you can then bury in the ground on the day of the funeral.

Create an Obituary Notice

The final thing you need to do is to create an obituary notice to let everyone in the community know that your loved one has passed away. Be sure to list the date of the wake and the date of the actual funeral. This will ensure that everyone knows that the two events will not take place on the same day.
